Meghan Bredell SEBS'25
I chose the SEBS biochemistry program to earn a Bachelor of Science with hands-on experience. As a transfer student from Brookdale Community College with an associate’s, I could focus on the upper-level courses required to complete my degree.
Returning to college as a non-traditional student has been challenging in the best ways, and my instructors and advisors have been incredibly invested in and supportive of my success.
Through the Biochemistry Department, I discovered toxicology as a career path, and I am focused on continuing my education to complete a PhD in toxicology. I had the opportunity to participate in the ToxMSDT undergraduate program and attend the annual Society of Toxicology conference, networking with graduate students and professionals in the field and creating lifelong mentoring relationships. I grew as a peer mentor, serving as a student collaborator for a Rutgers IDEA grant program for prospective SEBS transfer students and as a Barabara Voorhees Mentor at Douglass Residential College. Rutgers allowed me to develop academically and as a leader through collaborating across colleges within the university and finding my community among my peers.
